Who We Are

The TNR Project works to end the overpopulation and unnecessary euthanization of feral cats & kittens.

We believe TNR is the true solution to ending No Kill Shelters.

The TNR Project will continue to work with the communities & various neighborhoods across San Gabriel Valley county until there are no more cats & kittens born on the streets.

Why is TNR important?

Feral cats & kittens are not socialized to people, they are deemed un-adoptable as pets. Because of this, most shelters across the U.S. euthanize animals labeled unadoptable.

In fact, 45% of all cats who enter shelters are killed there. That number jumps close to 100% for feral cats.

Many shelters now realize that allowing feral cats to enter their doors is a death sentence, increasing the need for Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) projects across the nation.

In recognition of this, some animal shelters have attempted to adopt a “no feral cats accepted” policy (known as SNR, Shelter-Neuter-Return), as well as a policy of returning eartipped cats back to their outdoor home environment.

Unfortunately, there are more shelters that continue to kill feral cats rather than perform SNR. Many healthy feral cats are sentenced to death as soon as they are brought to a facility.

Feral cats can live full, healthy lives outdoors, but are killed in shelters.

Because of the discrepancy between shelters adopting SNR practices, TNR remains the only safe, effective, humane, & successful approach to address overpopulation of feral cats.

The TNR Project brings together resources to aid our local community by engaging veterinarians, educating the public about TNR, & highlighting the community benefits for adopting a TNR model for strays & homeless cats.

Our organization is 100% volunteer base, meaning we lean heavily on local rescues & foster groups who help The TNR Project thrive.

We are always looking for loving foster families to rehabilitate kittens and volunteers for our cause, and are beyond appreciative for those take the time to socialize these cats & kittens that cannot safely be returned to outdoor living so they may find their fur-ever homes!

 What We Do

The TNR Project's focus is solely on TNR.

There are very few people who know about and perform TNR, however, there are hundreds of rescues where we are. We let the rescues pull shelter cats for adoption. We tackle the main reason why there are so many shelter cats to pull.....unwanted kittens & abandoned cats. It is our sole focus to make sure that we prevent these unwanted births by tackling the source....abandoned cats left to breed, live and die on the streets.

We fix both cats and communities. Animals are being abandoned in record numbers. Instead of flooding the shelters and the rescues which are full, we encourage people to have these cats TNR'd and foster the kittens. We firmly believe that we are ground zero for helping the shelters become NO KILL. Most of the cats & kittens we end up TNR'ing would have immediately been euthanized in the shelter system. By preventing unwanted births and stabilizing the colonies that have been left behind, we are keeping the intake numbers down, thereby allowing shelters to focus on people who surrender and those who need spay/neuter for personal pets.  We fix communites by pulling people together to tackle the problem, explain how cats are beneficial to their communities and provide the way to resources for everyone to benefit from...people and cats.

  • We have people start a feeding schedule to get an accurate number of how many cats there are who need TNR

  • We have people make a checklist of the colony cats (colors, ages, length of fur, who's pregnant)

  • We have people line up a foster for any kittens who have a chance to be pulled from the streets & socialized (rescues, friends, family)

  • We schedule a time for TNR once their colony is consistent on Wednesday and/or Thursday

  • We perform TNR using FixNation's highly successful protocol

  • We knock on doors and talk with neighbors to find "the source" of the colonies in the neighborhood

  • We have handouts with tips & tricks on how to deal with issues to keep neighbors happy

TNR TRAINING & VOLUNTEERING: We get people involved!! We have 3-4 TNR classes a year so people can go one-on-one and meet others like them who feed, TNR and foster. We work with FIxNation to teach how to TNR correctly and get them out into the field immediately. All it takes is an online 40 minute training session and you’re off and running.

If you prefer learning online and want to get started immediately, we encourage you to register with FixNation and complete their 40 minute online training. FixNation has traps available to borrow. People who train with us or FixNation can join our vanpool which is FREE, twice weekly to help you tackle your colony quickly. We encourage everyone to stabilize their own colony first before helping others with their colonies.

We really encourage people to do the online training so they know what to expect and what we do in their own time and for future issues. We like to empower people so they never feel helpless and they always know where to go. We have put together the resources, now use them!

It's much easier for 30 people to clean up 30 colonies in ONE WEEK, than it is for ONE volunteer to do 30 colonies in 30 weeks!

WHAT WE DON'T DO

  • We absolutely DO NOT trap for euthanization!

  • We do not trap and "remove" from the premises. Cats are natural pest control…have you noticed?

  • We are not a 501c3. We use our own paychecks and our own time after work to prove that TNR is the answer to overpopulation.

  • We are not a rescue or shelter and we don’t have a facility. If you are looking for a spot to "dump" kittens, we are not it.

  • We are not a transport. They are few & far between unfortunately and you are usually waitlisted. Our priority is TNR so transports are less needed.

  • We are not a foster group, however we are always looking for rescues/foster for kittens we trap on the streets
